The Armadale House

The alteration and addition of a single storey weatherboard residence, Armadale House called for a functional spatial arrangement to complement a compact site. A refined palette of materials combined with carefully considered spatial planning became the driving forces of the design response.

In section the design is rigorous, stepping down to the rear and along the boundary, with low ceilings in some areas offset by higher ceilings and skylights. The formal response is pragmatic, bending to ensure neighbouring amenity but not simply following the code.

The interiors are generally of a calming grey palette whilst the warmth of the herringbone oak floor and tan banquette seat ground the project. In built joinery throughout ensures the spatial planning works hard, such as in the concealed laundry within the main bathroom and the inbuilt dining area adjacent the kitchen.
